Honda Variation Codes

If you have ever tried to order parts for your Honda engine, you have probably been asked “Do you have your variation code?”.

It seems simple enough, if you have your model number you should be able to find anything that you need for this, but it’s just not that easy. Were going to take a look at Honda variation codes and what they mean. To start we’llĀ  just take a look a the GX160, this is a simple 5.5 HP engine but most people do not know that there are actually 479 variations of this engine. Now most of the differences are due to different crankshafts that are used for numerous applications, but there are also other differences in each one of these engines. Some of them have different air cleaners and others may have different features such as electric start or oil alerts. So take some time to check out the chart below for basic information about Honda model and variation numbers.
